  • In 2008, North Carolina is estimated to have 40,420 residents being diagnosed with cancer.
     
  • In 2008, North Carolina is estimated to have 17,450 residents die from cancer.

  • In 2008, over 500 North Carolina breast cancer patients have been supported through the American Cancer Society Reach to Recovery Program.
     
  • In 2008, over 550 cancer patients have been supported through the American Cancer Society Look Good Feel Better Program.
     
  • Over 1,500 individuals have screened for prostate and colon cancer through partnerships with North Carolina Health Care Providers.
     
  • Over 300 Worksite Partners are providing patient services, tobacco control and nutrition/physical activity programs to their employees.
     
  • Over $70,000 was awarded to North Carolina communities in the form of Targeted Community Investment Grants in 2006. These grants financially support state, regional and local projects consistent with the Society’s fight against cancer.
      
  • The Charleston Hope Lodge was the first Society Hope Lodge to open its doors to guests, serving over 8,000 cancer patients and caregivers in its history. All services are cost free!
